Regulation of cardiac transcriptional activity.
Our research has focused on transcriptional regulation of cardiac energy metabolism and mitochondrial function in health and disease. To this end we have investigated the PPAR (Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor) family of transcription factors as well as the role of PPAR-interacting proteins, focusing both on upstream signaling events and downstream targets.
Recently we have become interested in transcriptional events that control mitochondrial turnover and maintenance of mitochondrial number in the heart. The laboratory employs a wide variety of molecular, cellular, and animal models to further our research goals.
